FAQs

Here’s list of frequently asked questions answered by previous designers and facilitators of the Anywear Academy!

What's unique about this curriculum?

This curriculum offers a unique combination of hidden and standard delivery methods of pedagogy.  Most of the time students don’t know that they are learning. The curriculum touches on everything from social emotional growth to practical problem solving and coding, it literally is the whole package.

Has it been run before?

It has been run a number of different times in a number of different interactions. From experienced camp staff to grad students each staff and iteration put their own spin on things, and that is highly encouraged.

What is it like?

Sometimes chaotic, but all of the time engaging and fun. Both running and playing it is sure to draw attention.

Won't this just be chaos?

It will not be just chaos! There is learning that comes out of the chaos. If you construct your cohorts correctly and there is a clear division of labor between the staff the chaos will just add to the fun instead of taking away from it.

What happens if plot interpretation gets steered off course?

While it was designed to be modular in nature the curriculum is flexible enough to accommodate the inevitability of drift away from the plot that is likely to occur. If the students get fixated on the wrong thing, it isn’t the end of the world. Most of the time it can be used as a plot point to build something new out of.

How much of a character do I need to play?

The more you are in character the more you give permission for the students to also be in character. It really depends on how much you want to drive engagement and what your role is. It is preferred that everyone who engages with students is in character during appropriate moments.

How best to manage unstructured time?

Any teacher will tell you that unstructured time can lead to behaviors. It is universally understood and without debate. Increasing your supervision, staying in character, and approaching things with curiosity are all sure fire ways to keep things going in the right direction.

How to manage engagement and group dynamics?

Managing engagement is always tricky when you are working in a project based learning environment. The more that you put into your character the more buy in that you will get from the students. When you are in character and silly it gives the students permission to do the same.

How can I get support and get buy-in from my administration?

How do I balance the budget for the material to run this camp?

This is a complicated aspect of the project. You will need to decide how much money you are going to spend and plan on spending 25% on materials for sets, 35% on materials for building and the microbits, and 60% on personnel costs.
